The History of Worcester Park Parish

From 11th September 1998 to 31st August 2021
by Father Kevan Hayden B.A., M.A.

As I write this next chapter in the history of St. Matthias Parish there have only been three Parish Priests in the last 75 years. This is unusual in the history of the diocese.

Together, the people and clergy have collaborated to create a real feeling of Catholic family in the local community.

Father Hayden and Canon Beausang My first day as Parish Priest in Worcester Park was Friday 11th September 1998.  Boy was I scared!

I was apprehensive, this being the first time I would be working by myself since my ordination in 1982.

But from the beginning many parishioners offered practical support and my family were not far away.

Canon Beausang was always happy to offer counsel and advice.

I will be eternally grateful for his warm welcome and assistance.
